Worms & Cie was founded in France in 1848 by Hypolite Worms. Originally established as a gypsum and coal trading company, the firm later diversified notably into shipping and then banking. By the mid-20th century, changing market conditions made adaptability essential to long-term success.
Drawing on its entrepreneurial heritage, the firm went on to invest in or create numerous businesses, that have since become major employers and drivers of innovation worldwide; including companies such as Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, SGS, Saint-Louis Sucre, etc.
